Show the Administration that Grads Care About Our Workplace Democracy!

Final Push to Sign GLO’s Petition about Protecting Our Workplace Democracy! Let the Administration See that Grads Are Paying Attention!

Earlier in the semester GLO sent out an email to let you know about the ways in which Brown has been violating the grad worker’s union contract.

This semester Brown has:

  • Made unilateral changes to remote work and residency policies for grads without including the union in decisions about these changes. Grad workers deserve a say in our health, safety, and working conditions during the pandemic!

  • Decided they would not deduct dues in September and deducted them twice in October in violation of our contract.

  • Cut tuition-paying Masters grads out of our bargaining unit, paying them at half the rate they pay PhD grads for the same work.

To address these contract violations GLO has filed Unfair Labor Practices Charges with the National Labor Relations Board and taken the University to arbitration (in the case of the Masters grads).

We also recognize that legal actions are not always enough to make a university respect a union contract. That’s why we are asking for any GLO member who hasn’t yet signed our petition to please do so. It’s important that Brown knows GRADS ARE PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR WORKING CONDITIONS.

GLO is currently demanding Brown do three things:

  1. Let all incoming grads know that our graduate work is union work! Appointment letters should have clear union security language.

  2. Let all grads who were approved for remote work continue their remote status through the Spring Semester.

  3. Bargain with the union about the parameters of remote work for the future.

Sign GLO’s Petition and tell Brown to respect our workplace democracy!
